The 2010 Philippine Presidential Race:




“Walang Atrasan” Presidential Aspirants : Who Are Most Likely To File Their Certificates of Candidacy ?



With the coming month of November as the period for filing the certificates
of candidacy for president of the Philippines, who are the persons most likely to run the 2010 presidential race?

And who among the touted presidentiables will blink and back out?

The following persons are noted to be the “walang atrasan” presidential aspirants, in alphabetical order :

de Castro , Noli (Vice President)
Fernando, Bayani ( MMDA Chairman)
Legarda, Loren (Senator)
Mercado, Norberto (Bishop of Council of Overseers of the Nation’s
Evangelization)
Roxas, Mar (Senator)
Teodoro, Gilberto (Secretary of National Defense)
Villanueva, Eddie (Spiritual Leader of Jesus is Lord)
Villar, Manny (Senator)

Three of the “walang atrasan” presidential aspirants are alumni of the University of the Philippines, namely (in alphabetical order) :

Legarda, Loren
Mercado, Norberto
Villar, Manny

The five others are graduates of others schools : Noli de Castro (University of the East), Bayani Fernando (Mapua Institute of Technology), Mar Roxas (Ateneo de Manila), Gilberto Teodoro (Ateneo de Manila), and Eddie Villanueva (Philippine College of Commerce).

Two of the eight presidentiables are graduates of the National Defense College of the Philippines(NDCP), the “war college” of the country : Bishop Norberto Mercado (Class 21) and Secretary Gilberto Teodoro (Class 33) .

Six of them are Tagalogs : Noli de Castro (Mindoro), Bayani Fernando (Marikina), Loren Legarda (Manila), Gilberto Teodoro (Tarlac), Eddie Villanueva (Bulacan), and Manny Villar (Manila).

One is an Ilocano – Norberto Mercado (Tarlac).

Another one is a Bisaya – Mar Roxas(Capiz).

The other media-touted presidential aspirants who will most likely back out from the race, for one reason or another, are the following : Joseph Estrada , Chiz Escudero, and Dick Gordon.

Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay and Senator Panfilo Lacson had already stated that they would not pursue their plans to run for president.
